Activities

The list of local interests and activities in and around the Santubong Peninsular is endless; whether you want to take on summiting majestic Mount Santubong, head out on a wildlife cruise to spot Crocodiles, Proboscis Monkeys and the rare Irrawaddy Dolphin, bird watch at Buntal or play golf at the neighbouring Damai Golf Course, there is always something to keep you busy. Bicycles are available for you to explore the surrounding areas. Pantai Puteri Beach, a picturesque natural beach located just 100m from the Village House is perfect for reflective walks, exploring the many little marine life such as hermit crabs, fishes trapped in rock pools, mud skippers at the mangrove areas or merely just to enjoy the sea breeze and sunsets.

The following are just some of the other things you can enjoy.  For a more comprehensive list of tours and excursions, click here.

Kuching Wetlands National Park: Morning Cruise

Get aboard a small vessel at the village jetty with our seasoned boatman and head across the Sarawak River mouth to the Salak Estuary & the RAMSAR gazetted Kuching Wetlands National Park area.  As you slowly cruise along, keep your eyes peeled for pods of the rare Irrawaddy Dolphins or Orcaella Bevirostris and with some luck, you might catch glimpses of them barrel rolling in the surf. Your morning cruise will also take you past the quaint Kampung Salak or Salak Village and around the rich mangrove areas of the park where you may spot some Proboscis and Silver Leaf monkeys, Macaques and even Crocodiles at low tide.

Kuching Wetlands National Park: Sunset & Fireflies Cruise

Enjoy a brilliant sunset out on the water as our local boatman ferries you across the river mouth over to the Kuching Wetlands National Park for the start of your evening Dolphins and Fireflies spotting cruise.  With some luck, be treated with glimpses of the rare Irrawaddy Dolphins, Proboscis, Silver Leaf & Macaque Monkeys in their natural habitat.  Experience the magical dancing lights of the fireflies as the brilliant colours of sunset darkens into night.

The Living Museum – Sarawak Cultural Village

Sarawak is renowned for its cultural diversity and there’s no better way to experience this than a visit to the excellently put together Sarawak Cultural Village situated near the tip of the peninsula just 4 km away.  Visit the re-created original dwelling spaces of the numerous ethnic peoples of Sarawak and engage with the ‘residents’ here as you watch them demonstrate the typical skills of cake and crafts making. Be further entertained with a special dance presentation, staged twice daily at 11.30 a.m. and at 4.00 p.m. Click here http://scv.com.my for more information.

Summiting or Trekking Mount Santubong

For adventure seekers and nature lovers, a trek into the Santubong National Park area is a must. With the head of the trail sited just 3 km away, you might even choose to challenge yourself to summit this majestic mountain which will take approximately 5 hour depending on your fitness levels. Not for the faint hearted.  Choose perhaps a less strenuous leisurely trail walk around a foothill loop and enjoy the fresh mountain air, cool rainforest streams and pristine flora and fauna of this wonderful National Park.

Golfing

An Arnold Palmer Designed Golf Course sits at our doorstep offering 18 holes of spectacular fairway views of majestic Mount Santubong and the Santubong coastline. The impressive clubhouse also features a well-stocked pro shop able to fit you out with the required rental equipment.  Click here http://damaigolf.com for more information on this picturesque course

Satang Island Experiences

Enjoy the better part of a day at the nearby Satang Island’s white sandy beach and clear waters (clarity is dependant on the time of the year due to proximity to the numerous river discharges).  The boat journey takes approximately 45 minutes from the village jetty.

Or Just Chill-Out

The sound of cascading water off the sides of the 15m swimming pool is the perfect accompaniment to the sweet birdsongs and the wonderful cacophony of nature.  Stylishly furnished public areas with loungers and comfortable seatings are perfect just for chilling out and enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. Upstairs at the main building, the Wallace Den provides some respite from the occassional tropical balmy day with it air-conditioned comfort complete with a good Library, Cable TV & DVD facilities and board games.
